Boron in Pharmaceutical Use

The pharmaceutical industry is highly regulated and EP grade products manufactured at our Coudekerque, France facility:

  • Conform to the current edition of the European Pharmacopoeia (EP)
  • Are in full compliance with the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines (ICH-Q7)
  • Conform to CEP (Certificate of Suitability) certification of the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines (EDQM)

Our CEP certification allows our customers to easily administer their Marketing Authorization Applications (MAA) for the medicines that they produce which incorporate EP grade products as starting materials in the pharmaceutical production process.

Our entire process including manufacturing, laboratory, packaging, storage, and distribution is documented to comply with GMP guidelines.

Personal care applications

Borates are used in a very wide range of different applications, including skin care and personal care products. Borax Decahydrate EP and Optibor® EP are only sold in European Union (EU) markets while Borax Decahydrate NF and Optibor NF are only sold outside of the EU.

Every day eye care

Eyedrops (artificial tears) are used to moisturize irritated eyes, remove redness, or relieve the itching associated with allergies and colds. Both Borax Decahydrate EP/NF and Optibor EP/NF/3C are frequently added in small quantities to these products, to help control pH and retain moisture. Sterile saline solutions for contact lenses are often buffered with small quantities of these 20 Mule Team® Borax products, which are also included in lens rewetting drops that can make the lenses more comfortable to wear.
Distributors and end use customers are encouraged to consult our product label as well as all applicable regulations and standards to ensure compliance with all directions of use, caution statements, product safety and laws governing the use of these products. It is incumbent upon distributors and customers to ensure compliance, dependent upon end use. U.S. Borax will not be responsible or liable for any non-compliant or inappropriate use.
