A history of integrity

For more than 150 years, U.S. Borax (part of Rio Tinto)—known for our 20 Mule Team® Borax brand—has mined boron from California. Today, we operate the state’s largest open pit mine (in Boron, California), one of the richest borate deposits on the planet. U.S. Borax is the known leader in borate technology, research, and development. We supply around 30% of the global demand for refined boron, an ingredient in a diverse range of vital products, from crop fertilizer to cell phone glass.

Our long-standing commitment to innovation and improvement extends to our world-class safety, environmental, and community practices. With 50,000+ employees in more than 40 countries, we offer opportunity for advancement, an open and diverse culture, and a responsible and responsive work environment. We also forge close relationships with the communities in which we operate, becoming involved in education, supporting local communities, awarding grants for social and health programs, and striving for close involvement with local governments and NGOs.
