U.S. Borax Partners with University of Arizona

:: Monday, March 18, 2019 :: Posted By Mary Beth Garrison
Over the years, U.S. Borax has hired a number of interns and graduates from the University of Arizona. From their ranks, we have hired employees gifted in fields including:
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Computer science
  • Management information systems
  • Mine engineering
  • Geology
Some have developed and grown from entry level to management level positions.

Current interns

We are currently working with a team of five Management Information Systems (MIS) graduate students. (Shown in the above photo while on a tour of our Boron mine site.)

The MIS team is helping with our data science “community of practice.” To that end, they are creating a web site to act as a data user hub. The hub will be the catalyst to help analyze data and develop business solutions. It is a semester-long project ending in May 2019. We gain from their innovative way of thinking and they gain by their real-life exposure to the business world.

Future possibilities

U.S. Borax also participates in University of Arizona symposiums and career fairs. At a recent fair, hundreds of students talked with our executives about past projects, current initiatives, and future job opportunities at our mine.
