Wilmington, California Operations

Supporting Supply-Chain Reliability

The Wilmington facility at the Port of Los Angeles has been in continuous operation since 1924. Today it manufactures our Solubor®, Octobor®, Tim-bor®, Polybor®, Firebrake® zinc borate family, and Borogard® zinc borate products used for agriculture, wood preservation, and flame and smoke retardant applications.

The refinery and shipping operation produces and ships more than 36,000 tons of packaged goods and more than 300,000 tons of bulk material to customers in Europe, Malaysia, and China. Borates are shipped by rail to the Wilmington facility. The cargo is then loaded onto bulk vessels for shipment. At their destinations, the borates are unloaded, inspected, packed, and distributed via rail, barge, vessel, or truck.

Recycling for Community Support

The operation has an active recycling program that includes scrap metal, paper, wood, and plastics. Dedicated bins throughout the property collect recyclables that are sold to fund several community projects a year, including supporting a homeless shelter, at-risk high school students, and underserved youth.

A favorite project for employees represented by International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 20 is the annual backpack drive for the Boys and Girls Clubs. Each year, employee volunteers stuff 300 backpacks with age-appropriate school supplies. The program is a big hit with the students.
