U.S. Borax has always been a part of life in Boron, California.
Generations of local families have grown alongside our company, and we’ve seen many employees follow in their parents’ footsteps working at the mine.
Our close connection shows up in many ways, but we’re especially proud of how we give back—supporting education, local organizations, and infrastructure.
Each year, that commitment to community comes into focus through the Borax Visitor Center Foundation’s grant and scholarship programs. The Visitor Center Foundation Board of Directors, comprised of company and community leaders, spearheads resource and fund disbursement for both programs.
Scholarships unlock opportunity, confidence for students
Each year, seniors at Boron High School can apply for a scholarship to pursue technical training, college degree, or university education. The support helps lift financial barriers while giving students the freedom to focus on studies.
“Over the years, the U.S. Borax Visitor Center Foundation has helped dozens of local students pursue the academic path that’s right for them,” said Mary Beth Garrison, U.S. Borax manager of external relations and community engagement. “Their worldview expands, and self-confidence soars when they succeed in learning environments beyond East Kern County.”
After graduation, students can choose from many paths. Some return to the area for careers at U.S. Borax or nearby Edwards Air Force base. Others take the reins of family businesses or pave their own career path.
“The sky is the limit,” Garrison said. “We are proud to play a part in their success.”
