Borax is proud of its achievements toward sustainability over the past four years, but remains committed to improving its program and performance. Major challenges we will address in 2004 include:
Integrating sustainable development into key business functions – including human resources and sales and marketing practices – to identify gaps between our current processes and our commitment to sustainable development. For instance, we need to better integrate sustainability into employee recruitment, orientation and development systems.
Formalizing our stakeholder engagement activities by improving how we prioritize stakeholders; identify their expectations; and align projects, performance measures and communications accordingly. Borax will continue to invite people from outside the company – including customers, community leaders, government officials and environmental organizations – to meet with our executive team to provide feedback and counsel.
Demonstrating the business value of sustainable development – to confirm the return on the investment internally and to leverage the commitment for competitive advantage among customers.
