Borax’s 2003 Sustainability Report
focuses on performance during the calendar year, but also provides
data from previous years where possible to illustrate trends. For
future reports, we will work to provide data from other industries
as well, to help put our results in context.
In response to stakeholder feedback in 2002, this report was prepared
based on the Global Reporting Initiative
(GRI) 2002 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. A GRI
Index has been developed to
help navigate the site and fulfill GRI requirements.
The company published similar reports in 2000, 2001 and 2002,
all of which are available in our electronic library. There have
been no significant changes to the business since the last report.
Economic and social performance reporting covers the global organization,
including all products and practices. Environmental performance
reporting covers Borax’s mining, refining and shipping operations
in the United States, South America and Europe – and focuses
on aspects and activities that have the potential to affect people
working at or living near our operations, or the environment.
