Land
Borax did not meet its land rehabilitation target in
2004 due to mid-year changes in the mine plan that reduced
the amount of acreage available for planting. These changes
are not expected to affect Borax's ability to meet
its new target by 2008.
The company continues its partnership with Victor Valley
College to enlist their Horitculture Department's
help in reestablishing Creosote Bush and other hard-to-grow
species to meet the California Department of Conservation's
plant diversity requirements. To date, 500 plants, propagated
in a campus greenhouse, have been successfully transplanted.
Borax has extended this partnership agreement through
2007 and has increased its commitment from $10,000 to
$20,000 per year.
