Boron deficiencies are likely in sugar beet crops if the nutrient is not applied as a current practice.
Brandenburg1 first identified
boron deficiency in sugar beet in 1931. Sugar beet crops are normally managed very intensively, which means that fertilizer rates are high and yields are pushed to the maximum. In this context soils won't be able to provide enough B. Foliar boron fertilizers can be applied when crops need boron most. The main benefits of boron are:
- Increased root yield
- Increased sugar content
- Better juice purity
- Better crop health and resistance to fungus attacks and drought
